Attendance & Class Schedules
Music Moves for Piano is not your typical learn-by-the-book approach to piano lessons, and Music Play is not your typical sing-a-long music and movement class. Because a considerable amount of planning and preparation is required for each class, families should notify the teacher as soon as possible if they will be absent. An absence is excused when the teacher is given 24-hour notice, the student has an illness or the family has an emergency. Excused absences can be made up by attending other scheduled classes within each session. Piano/Singing classes also have make-up days scheduled at the end of each semester. Unexcused absences and missed make-up classes will not be made up. All teacher absences will be made up, or a refund will be issued.
The 2024-25 class schedule follows the Worcester Public Schools calendar, and there are no classes on holidays vacation and inclement weather days.
The Music Moves for Piano class schedule is based on a 10-month schedule from September to June with 30 lessons scheduled over the course of the school year.
Instrument & Practice
Piano students
Set up for success beginning with your instrument. To learn how to play the piano, the student needs daily access to a high-quality instrument. If a regularly tuned acoustic piano is not an option, the next best thing is a full-sized (88-keys) weighted digital keyboard. Using the body to the feel the weight of the keys and experiencing an in-tune instrument with a beautiful sound and make all the difference for anyone learning the piano.
For beginning students in Keyboard Games A and B, the main goal is for the child to enjoy playing and exploring. Aim to build piano and aural music activities into their daily routine by choosing together an ideal time to play the piano and/or engage in lesson activities for at least a few minutes each day. As students transition to Book 1, formal learning begins and will progress with structured practice.
